How to Realistically Achieve 10K Steps a Day
At the start of the year, I set a goal to hit 10K steps a day. Working from home, I quickly realized I was only hitting about 3,500 steps—yikes! At first, it felt impossible to triple my steps, but with a few realistic changes, I’ve turned it into a habit. Here’s what worked for me:
1. Brisk Walks to Start the Day
There’s just something about stepping outside for fresh air! A 20–30 minute walk at a speed of 3.5–4 mph gets me almost halfway to my daily goal. Bonus: it’s a great mood booster too!
2. House Chores = Extra Steps
Cleaning my house has become my sneaky secret weapon. Doing a little vacuuming, laundry, or tidying up adds up quickly—and I love the double win of a clean space and more steps.
3. Midday Walk Breaks
Working from home can mean sitting for hours, so I schedule short walks around the block every few hours. It’s a quick way to reset my brain and get those steps in.
4. Run Errands
Turns out, running errands is an easy way to hit your step count. Grocery store? Mall trip? Yes, please! All that walking adds up—and you’re being productive too.
5. Add Cardio to Your Day
On days when I include a brisk jog, HIIT workout, or even a quick run, my step count skyrockets. Adding cardio to my routine has been a total game-changer.
6. Little Changes Add Up
The classics work: park farther away, take the stairs, and stop asking your husband to refill your water bottle—do it yourself and enjoy those extra 100 steps!
It took a few weeks to get into the groove, but hitting 10K steps now feels so much more doable. These small changes have made a huge difference, and I hope they inspire you to get moving too!
Let me know how you’re sneaking in steps—I’m always looking for new ideas!
xoxo,
